Every Wayward Robots world is operated by a licensed professional for their own clients — and that professional owns its safety configuration. In each app's Settings, the practitioner completes a safety onboarding: their jurisdiction, their crisis lines in priority order, their written protocol. From that moment, every crisis pathway in the world routes to that plan. The tools always answer, and they answer with the practitioner's own words and numbers — never with a hard-coded hotline that might be wrong for an expat client, a different state, or a different country.
We publish exactly what each product is: wellness and practice-management software. It is not therapy, not a medical device, and not a crisis service. We make no compliance claims we have not earned, and our build gates forbid borrowed badges anywhere in the product or its marketing. Client-data handling, PHI decisions, and regulatory compliance are the responsibility of the purchasing practice — The Lighthouse gives the practitioner the controls; the practitioner supplies the judgment and the jurisdiction.
Every AI companion in every world carries a non-removable base layer: it never diagnoses, never invents or recites crisis numbers, routes crisis mentions to the practitioner's configured protocol, and says plainly that it is a robot. Practices bring their own AI keys and their own policies; the honesty layer is ours, and it doesn't come off.
Why we are careful
The origin of every one of these products is a child alone in the dark with no one coming. That is not a marketing story to us — it is the reason the safety surfaces belong to the practitioner who knows where their client actually is, and never to software that has no idea what country it is in.
“Every island is somebody’s whole heart.”
Which is why we do not put a phone number in a product that crosses borders, and why your protocol is yours to configure.
